How to Fix Receiving and Sending Faxing Problems with Brother MFC-250C if You’re Using MagicJack

MagicJack is a device that is plugged into a USB port that provides Internet-based telephone service (VoIP) to use with your high speed internet connection. And if you happen to be using this device for your Brother MFC-250C inkjet all-in-one printer for its telephone connection and faxing purposes but having a problem with it then this is the right article to read to.

Brother actually doesn’t support the use of its fax machines and multifunction centers with MagicJack. However, if you want to use your Brother MFC-250C to send and receive faxes over MagicJack, Brother recommends you to contact MagicJack service center and ask them which modem speed they recommend for faxing.

The following steps will allow you to set the Brother machine’s modem speed to their recommendation. These steps are from Brother Solutions Center.

Steps to Fix Receiving and Sending Faxing Problems When Using MagicJack

• Step 1 - Press Menu.
• Step 2 - Press the Up or Down arrow key to choose Fax.
• Step 3 - Press OK.
• Step 4 - Press the Up or Down arrow key to choose Miscellaneous.
• Step 5 - Press OK.
• Step 6 - Press the Up or Down arrow key to choose Compatibility.
• Step 7 - Press OK.
• Step 8 - Press the Up or Down arrow key to choose the modem speed you want to use. You can choose Basic (for VoIP) or Normal (or High): (1) High sets the machine's modem speed at 33,600 bps, (2) Normal sets the machine's modem speed at 14,400 bps and (3) Basic (for VoIP) or Basic sets the machine's modem speed at 9,600 bps.
• Step 9 - Press OK.
• Step 10 - Press Stop/Exit.
• Step 11 - Try to send another test fax.

Keep in mind that the High Settings is only available for some models. You can change the compatibility to Basic (for VoIP) or Basic, the Brother machine's Error Correction Mode (ECM) is turned off when sending or receiving black and white faxes. ECM cannot be turned off for color faxing.
