The Brother HL-5450DN is a
high-speed laser printer with networking and duplex printing features that can
print up to 40 pages per minute and offers up to 1200 x 1200 dpi resolution for
crisp, clear text and excellent graphics. It also has a built-in Ethernet
interface or connects locally via its Hi-Speed USB 2.0 interface and can print
from any mobile device printing from your mobile device via AirPrint™, Google
Cloud Print™, Brother™ iPrint&Scan and Cortado Workplace. It also provides a
wide-range of security features including: Secure Function Lock, Enterprise
Security and more.
Brother HL-5450DN also offers
users to lower printing costs with its high-page yield replacement toner
cartridges, the Brother
TN750 toner cartridge. On the other hand though, it uses a separate drum
cartridge, the Brother DR720 drum unit. And for maintenance purposes, printer users
should know how to clean the drum unit of the Brother HL-5450DN, and that’s
what I will provide for this article.
The following steps below are
from Brother
Solutions Center:
- Step 1 - Make sure the Brother HL-5450DN is in Ready mode.
- Step 2 - Press the Up or Down arrow key to choose Machine Info.. Press OK.
- Step 3 - Press the Up or Down arrow key choose Drum Dot Print. Press OK to print the drum dot check sheet.
- Step 4 - Leave the machine turned on for 10 minutes for the internal fan to cool the extremely hot parts inside the machine.
- Step 5 - Turn off the Brother HL-5450DN's power switch.
- Step 6 - Press the front cover release button and then open the front cover.
- Step 7 - Take out the Brother DR720 drum unit and toner cartridge assembly.
- Step 8 - Push down the green lock lever and take the toner cartridge out of the drum unit.
- Step 9 - Turn the drum unit as shown in the illustration. Make sure that the drum unit gear (1) is on the left hand side.
- Step 10 - Use the numbered markers next to the drum roller to find the mark. For example, a dot in column 2 on the check sheet would mean that there is a mark in the "2" region of the drum.
- Step 11 - Turn the drum unit gear toward you by hand while looking at surface of the suspected area.
- Step 12 - When you have found the mark on the drum that matches the drum dot check sheet, wipe the surface of the drum gently with a cotton swab until the mark on the surface comes off.
- Step 13 - Put the toner cartridge back into the drum unit until you hear it lock into place. If you put the cartridge in properly, the green lock lever on the drum unit will lift automatically.
- Step 14 - Put the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly back into the Brother HL-5450DN.
- Step 15 - Close the front cover of the Brother HL-5450DN.
- Step 16 - Turn on the Brother HL-5450DN's power switch.
