HP Color LaserJet 4730 is a color digital laser printer known for printing excellent printing quality graphics and documents through its HP ImageRET 3600 printing technology and its HP Color Sphere toners, HP 4730 toner cartridges: HP Q6460A black toner, HP Q6461A cyan toner, HP Q6462A yellow toner and HP Q6463A magenta toner. It can print up to 31 pages per minute for black-and-white printouts and 30 pages per minute for colored printouts. But just like any other color digital printers, the HP Color LaserJet 4730 isn’t exempted to common print quality issues. That’s why for today’s topic, we’re going to give troubleshooting tips and solutions for some of the usual printing quality problems experienced by printer users. The following problems and solutions are from HP Color LaserJet 4730mfp Series Products - Troubleshooting Print Quality:

Printing Black Instead of Color
  • Problem: Color mode is not selected in the software application or printer driver.
Answer: Select Color mode instead of Grayscale or Monochrome mode in the software application or printer driver.
  • Problem: The correct printer driver is not selected in the software application.
Answer: Select the correct printer driver.
  • Problem: No color appears on the configuration page.
Answer: Consult the service representative.

Incorrect shade
  • Problem: The media does not meet the specifications for this MFP.
Answer: For information on media specifications.
  • Problem: The MFP is operated in excessively humid conditions.
Answer: Verify that the MFP’s environment is within humidity specifications.

Missing color
  • Problem: Defective HP print cartridge.
Answer: Replace the cartridge.
  • Problem: A non-HP cartridge might be installed.
Answer: Ensure a genuine HP print cartridge is used or reset the printer. Keep in mind that this printer is
boot to recognize genuine HP printer supplies only so by resetting the printer for it to recognize the alternative replacement cartridges.

Color match error
  • Problem: Extremely light screen colors are not being printed.
Solution: The software application might interpret extremely light colors as white. If so, avoid using extremely light colors.
  • Problem: Extremely dark screen colors are being printed in black.
Solution: The software application might interpret extremely dark colors as black. If so, avoid using extremely dark colors.
  • Problem: The colors on the computer screen differ from the MFP output
Solution: On the printer driver’s Color Control tab, select Screen Match.

Printing Quality Troubleshooting Pages

To print quality troubleshooting pages, follow the following steps:
  • Step 1 - Press MENU to enter the MENUS.
  • Step 2 - Touch DIAGNOSTICS.
  • Step 3 - Touch PQ TROUBLESHOOTING.
The message Printing... PQ troubleshooting appears on the display until the MFP finishes printing the print quality troubleshooting information. The MFP returns to the Ready state after printing the print quality troubleshooting information.

Calibrating the Color LaserJet 4730

By calibrating your HP Color LaserJet 4730, your machine will maintain the highest level of print quality. To do this, just follow these steps:
  • Press MENU to enter the MENUS.
  • Touch CONFIGURE DEVICE.
  • Touch PRINT QUALITY.
  • Touch QUICK CALIBRATE NOW.
Note: …or to perform a full calibration, use FULL CALIBRATE NOW instead of QUICK CALIBRATE NOW in steps 3 and 4.
